UTAH

New Orleans, LA – NOLA GOLD maintained its winning ways with a victory against the Utah Warriors on Saturday, May 18th, at the Shrine on Airline. With a final score of 21-14, the GOLD looked like a playoff contender throughout the full eighty minutes of play.

The GOLD got off to a fast start in this one. Malcolm May finished off a strong push to score the game’s first points in the third minute. From then on, it was largely a back-and-forth kicking match with bursts of attacking initiative interspersed. However, at the very end of the half, on the last possession, big Jarred Adams rumbled through a host of Warriors for a magnificent solo try to send the Gold into half up 14-0.

The second half required precision and discipline to maintain a well-earned NOLA lead. Multiple GOLD players have noted throughout the season that “playing a full eighty” is among the team’s most important priorities, and this game proved to be an excellent opportunity to achieve that goal. The GOLD added to their lead with a try from a well-executed maul in the fifty-second minute. NOLA surrendered points in the sixty-third and eightieth minutes, respectively, but by then the effort from Utah was too little too late. The GOLD won, 21-14.

Now at 6-4, the GOLD trail only the Free Jacks in the Eastern Conference and look very much like a team with dangerous momentum. A huge clash with the Chicago Hounds, also in the Eastern Conference mix, looms for Week 13.
